FAQ

Driveway Patrol Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is The Driveway Patrol Available in stores?
A. No. The Driveway Patrol is only available online at this stage to keep costs down.

Q. I am getting a lot of false alarms from The Driveway Patrol, how can I stop this?
A. Try changing the angle of The Driveway patrol to your drive, or move to the opposite side of your drive. Direct sunlight in the lens can trigger The Driveway Patrol as can moving leaves on trees.

A2.Please follow the directions in the user guide about narrowing the beam on the sensor to desensitise it.

A3.Ensure the sensor is installed > 1 Meter off the ground to elimate false alarms from animals

A4.Ensure the sensor is not facing into direct sunlight. Try moving sensor to the opposite side of the drive.

Q. How do the Sensor units work?
A. The sensor units are based on Passive Infrared Technology like home alarm systems and work on detecting moving heat sources to detect movement

Q. I dont seem to be getting a very good range out of the unit?

A. Ensure the receiver unit is not close to any other tranmitting devices like Cordless Phones, Wireless Internet Routers or Microwave ovens. As the receiver needs to "Listen" for the sensor, nearby radio transmitters can create interference so it can lessen the range

A2. Place the receiver closer to a window - Radio signals tend to travel better through glass that walls or steel.

Q. The sensor is transmitting continuously how can I stop this?

A. Replace the batteries in the sensor. Use good quality Alkaline batteries.

Q. Can I run more than one sensor on my Driveway Patrol Unit?
A. YES. The Driveway Patrol system is an Analogue system and you can add on as many as you like. However, be aware that if your neighbours have a Driveway Patrol system it will also trigger if the receiver is in range of their sensor.

Q. Can I run more than one receiver on my Driveway Patrol Unit?
A. YES. As above, the Driveway Patrol system is an Analogue system and you can add on as many as you like.

Q. How long do the batteries last?
A. The Sensor batteries generally will last for >1 year (9V Battery). The receiver batteries will usually last around 9 months (3x 'C' size batteries)

Q. Do you have telephone support available?
A. No, all support enquiries are handled from our SUPPORT page

Q. The transmitter is picking up people, but not cars?
A. For best results, when detecting cars, adjust the sensor to look at a 45 degree angle across the drive, have it about the height of the car's exhaust, and set it back far enough so the cars don't pass closer than 1 metre. It can help to have it looking at the back of the car, after driving past the sensor, to see the car's hot exhaust.

SENSOR PLACEMENT

It is best to avoid pointing the transmitter at streets or roads in the distance to prevent false alarms.

The transmitter must remain completely immobile or a false signal may result. For this reason, avoid mounting the transmitter on flimsy objects or small diameter trees
that may move in the wind

For best results place on a wooden post or tree as a metal post or large metal objects can reduce the range

TROUBLESHOOTING

Some trouble shooing pointers if you are experiencing problems:

If you are receiving a lot of false alarms, to test if there is a fault in the sensor, place the sensor in a cupboard and leave for a few hours and see if the receiver chimes. If not it is a matter of mounting the sensor in different positions to see which works best.
